Who can do this course?
Anyone can do the GIQ New Entrant course.
What do you get at the end of the course?
At the end of the 3 day course you receive a certificate for completing the course, a GIQ New Entrant Passport, and a Workplace Experience Log Book. Please note that to be awarded a Statement of Attainment for a nationally endorsed competency standard within the RII09 Resources and Infrastructure Industry Training Package, a trainee must be assessed as competent by an RTO endorsed competency assessor. Participants must complete the Workplace Experience Log Book and be assessed as competent to receive Statements of Attainment and a full GIQ passport.
What does the GIQ New Entrant Passport look like?
The GIQ New Entrant Passport is easily distinguishable from other GI passports as it features a thick green stripe on both sides of the card.
What is the Workplace Experience Log Book?
The Workplace Experience Log Book is for recording workplace experience.
For a trainee to be awarded a Statement of Attainment for a nationally endorsed competency standard within the RII09 Resources and Infrastructure Industry Training Package, the trainee must be assessed as competent by an RTO endorsed competency assessor.
Competency assessment goes beyond direct observation in the workplace. The RTO endorsed competency assessor should consider a range of evidence when determining the competence of a trainee. Ideally, the assessor will integrate several forms of evidence such as:
- Supervisor, colleague and third party reports
- Workplace experience
- Exam and test results
- Direct observation and verbal questioning
- Related or additional training and courses
To ensure entries are authentic, each entry should be countersigned by a recognised workplace supervisor or trainer. To assure overall validity, the completed log book should be certified by a worksite approved competency assessor or the worksite training coordinator. An area for this certification is included immediately after the final workplace experience record sheet.
What is the Record of Qualifications and Experience?
The Record of Qualifications and Experience is a self assessment checklist that has been developed to assist RTO’s in determining your individual training needs with respect to the General Induction Queensland (GIQ) course. This checklist is designed to capture a summary of your experience, skills and qualifications and to see if you are eligible for the RPL or RCC process. The checklist does not replace the formal RPL/RCC process; it is a basis of the formal RPL/RCC process.
How do I get my full GIQ passport?
Once you have successfully completed the Workplace Experience Log Book a GIQ Coal passport and Statement of Attainment is issued.
What’s the difference between GIQ Coal and GIQ New Entrant?
The GIQ Coal course is for people with transferrable skills or current industry experience relevant to their role; GIQ New Entrant caters specifically for people with no transferrable skills or experience.
Do I have the relevant experience or transferrable skills to enter the GIQ Coal program instead?
